I would like to go to london to see the 2012 olympics. I want to see one event-swimming. How much will it cost me? I know we don't know the ticket price, but about how much were they this year? or in 2004?

  1. I think they are going to ballot like they did in Sydney, heats are always the cheapest, the night sessions are usually the most expensive tickets at the Olympics along with the Gymnastics and Athletics. Good Luck

  2. Tickets for both Beijing and Athens were cheaper than for the Sydney Olympics. I think it's highly probable that tickets for London will be at least as expensive as Sydney, and probably a lot more considering that they're taking place 12 years later.

I've dug out my Sydney order form for the prices - all are in AUD, but at the time, USD would have been about 85% of the AUD prices.

Prices for each swimming heats session were:

    A - $140

    B - $95

    C - $65

    D - $35

    And finals sessions were:

    A - $455

    B - $325

    C - $225

    D - $95

There is bound to be a ticket ballot and swimming tickets are one of the most difficult tickets to get because of the popularity of the sport and the relatively small size of a swimming venue.

The A ticket ballot is done first and unsuccessful A ticket orders go in further ballots for B then C then D tickets (in order) until all A orders are filled. If any tickets are left after the A ballots, then the B order ballot is done and so on until all tickets are sold. Tens of thousands of people miss out altogether, particularly orders for the lower priced tickets. If I had my time over again, I would order all A tickets even if I couldn't afford them, in the certain knowledge that there is no way that I would be lucky enough in the ballot to get all A tickets. If you really want to see any swimming, you should plan on doing the same.
