  1. Start looking around &  pricing the different steaks you might be interested in. If you are going to have several children, I would have hamburgers & hot dogs for them. Some of the adults might like those too. If you grill  3-4 big Sirloins you can slice it, that will feed a lot of people. Then with lots of side dishes you should be fine.

  2. One way I like to stretch a steak for a group is to make kebabs on the grill. One pound of beef is enough for 6-8 portions and often the less expensive cuts are the ones that are best for the grill (I like to get petite sirloins because Albertson's sometimes has them on sale for $2.99/lb). You could also do half beef and half chicken or go to Costco and get some shrimp.

For the beef skewers, I cut the meat into 1-1/2" cubes and marinate in a ziploc bag for about 2 hours (I use Italian dressing for the marinade because it's inexpensive and its flavor doesn't overpower the meat & veggies).

I cut veggies into cubes about the same size and marinate those separately but not more than an hour. You can use a lot of different kinds of vegetables but I usually use whole mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, onion wedges and green pepper wedges.

Allow your wooden skewers to soak in water for 30 minutes before grilling to avoid burning.

To assemble the skewers, I like to alternate meat and 2 veggies, allowing for a variety of veggies and at least 4 pieces of meat per skewer. If your skewers are small you would obviously have to put less on. You can assemble these ahead of time and refridgerate them until it's time to start grilling - grill for about 3-4 minutes then turn over and grill 3-4 minutes more. For 30 people I'd make 40 large skewers or 60 small skewers (but I like to have extras for men with big appetites). If your grill isn't large enough for all at once, which it probably isn't, you can do it in batches and keep them warmed in the oven, or just put them out for people to take in waves - they have a short cooking time so that might be the best option for you.

    I hope this helps!

  3. London Broil is definitely the cheapest way to go, and they are on sale alot.  Marinate it; then slice in thin slices after it's grilled.   (btw:  skirt steaks are actually one of the MOST expensive cuts of steak, since they shrink so much.  They're only good for a crowd, if you're putting them on rolls.  Both skirt & flank steaks are actually higher per pound in my grocery, than t-bone!  Whereas, London Broil may be half as much per pound as any of them, and there's very little shrinkage)

  4. Buy some nice skirt steaks.

    Juicy and delicious and inexpensive.

You could probably get them on sale at Costco for 5.99lb or so.

I prefer them over Fillet Mignon.

    Much juicier and flavorful.

You'd need about 20lbs( if they all eat meat).

But you can make fajitas with them or

    serve as a regular steak.

( but they go great with guacamole and sour cream on the side),

or sprinkled with balsamic( after they're cooked).

    Best steak for the price.

    Tx two step

skirt steak is about 100 times better then flank.

    And all meat shrinks.

Nothing is better then skirt ( close second is mock tenders aka hangers)

  5. look in all of the adds at the store for steak or have grilled chicken and some sort of sause on it

  6. You could buy a Prime Rib and cut your own thickness of Rib Eye steaks from it And save a bundle while getting nice quality steaks..

Cost wise and ease of preparation I would recommend the Pulled Pork listed here.

The Pork would be a 1/3 the cost.

    Good Luck

  7. Affordable Steak Dinner:

  8. At my local grocery store the "eye round" steak is about $5 a pound. I didn't know some steak could be so cheap until I got a new recipe book and was "forced" to make it at home.

So I would try the eye round, I broil mine 4-5 min each side for medium. Plus there are a bunch of new seasoning mixes made just for the grill. You could totally do it.

Or if you have a butcher near you... check into bulk meat deals. Our butcher has a deal for about $60 you get steaks, kebabs, burgers, chicken & pork Chops... But it's frozen - but for something you are planning ahead you could totally thaw the day before.

Also look for No-Name brand steaks in the meat section freezer, they come in a box.
