Is it possible to have a sort of "mixed network" where one computer is connected (via Ethernet cable), and the other connected wirelessly?

  1. Yes it is. I have a router, it has two ethernet ports on the back. It is possible to have two PC's connected via ethernet and about 10 wirelessly. If it has ethernet ports and it is wireless, then yes you can.

  2. Yup, take a look at some routers.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLis...

what you're looking for is the type of ports.

in the description on the first product on the first page you'll see this: Ports: 1 x 10/100M WAN; 4 x 10/100M LAN

This means it has 1WAN (connect to modem/internet/Wide Area Network) and has 4 LAN ports (goes to computers connecting to network) This is just a list of ports on the back, it still has wireless capabilities.

You can also look for similar descriptions on product boxes should you choose to shop locally.

now the 10/100M is the speed of wired data transfer. 10/100 suits most home user needs. might wanna go 10/100/1000 if you're gonna be hosting LAN parties or something.
