I want to shop in nogales for a few hours do i need a passport?

i will park in usa and walk across the border...do i need a passport..i have heard several differnt answers..not sure what or if i do need a passport just to walk across and shop for a few hours

please help...some say i do ..but i heard as of jan 2008 you need a passport to just walk across

Now, you need a verified photo id like a driver's license. Just get a passport ASAP.

"TONALC " gave you the correct answer.  Passports are Not yet needed for LAND travel to and from Mexico.  See site below and read top half of page for correct , current info.

As of January 23, 2007, U.S. citizens need a passport for any air travel abroad -- even to Mexico, Canada and the Caribbean.

I'm going to assume, since you have given no further details, that you're going to be close to the border and will be walking/driving over.  

As a US citizen, you'll need government ID (driver's license) and proof of citizenship (birth certificate) to get back into the US.
