  1. If you are not used to independent travel, you could do a bus trip for !8-35 year olds with a company like Contiki.  There are other smaller group adventure tours (eg. going across the Kimberleys where you camp out  - which are fantastic from personal experience).  Otherwise look into backpacking and staying at youth hostels - you will get to meet lots of other young people from all over the world who are travelling by themselves.   You could look at making your way from Sydney up to Cairns and stopping at places like Byron Bay and Fraser Island (a popular backpacking route).  You can buy yourself a Greyhound bus pass (eg. unlimited kilometers or a one month pass).

Basically, the only problem might be have you got the money to do it?  Otherwise it will be very easy and you will have a great time.

  2. Northern Hemisphere summer is our winter.  Unless you like the cold I would spend time in Queensland and the Northern Territory (Darwin) and the north of Western Australia.  The southern winter is the ideal time to visit these areas (although even in the south it is not all that cold)

  3. Your summer is our Winter. One month is not long enought to travel around Australia unless using Flying as means of transport. It takes 4 to 5 days driving straight through stopping of an evening to go from Sydney to Perth. Distance 4000 klms.Suggest you travel to Queensland or Northern Territory where it is warmer unless you dont mind the cold. If that is the case Victoria and New South Wales.Coastlines are beautiful Both East Coast and West Coast depending what you want.I believe a visa is required to enter our country so check your Passport Office to see if required.

  4. There are lots of hostels to stay at in Australia. You need a visa depending on your nationality. You may want to consider health insurance in case you get sick.

  5. visit all of the coastal cities. start in perth for 5 days or so, there are the best beaches there. then head to melbourne for some shopping/cultural activities (art galleries etc), then head to sydney for real tourist sites (harbour bridge, opera house) and great beaches (bondi beach) and then head up to the gold coast or sunshine coast in queensland. 5-7 days in each would be plently. if you have any time left over go to hayman island or lindeman island.

  6. If you are an American citizen, you can see the site below to see how to get an ETA  (electronic) visa on-line.  Read the section nder Entry Requirements.  That will be your first step. Then you just need enough money to support yourself during your visit.  Then , you may find some helpful info on the embasssy website..2nd ne below.

  7. Hi Australia (Sydney) is hosting the world youth day 2008 (Jun-Jul)  this year. you dont have to be a catholic to participate. n neither do you have to participate. but wud be a good chance to visit Australia.
