I want to spend about one week in Kingston, Ontario. What is my cheapest option for housing?

I want to attend a conference in Queen's University and I am looking for a cheap hostel nearby. Shared rooms are OK as well. I am also wondering if i can find a room in the dorm. Can anyone help me out please? In all cases, do i have to book the room before arriving in Kingston?

Most universities in Canada do rent out the dorms. UofT, Ottawa U, Western and Guelph do so I assume Queens probably does as well. Generally they are about $20-30 a day but that would probably only be an option if the conference is during the summer when students are away.

There are plenty of motels. Highland Motel 5, Rest Inn and Days Inn would all be in the $60-100/day range. There are motels that will give you a weekly rate if you call around. Expect about $150-250/week.
