Question:

I want to spike better in volleyball?

So I'm on a club team and I'm the starting opposite spiker.

I don't really want to play that because it hardly ever gets set and I love spiking.

I think I'm much better than the outside spiker.

So I want to get a lot better at spiking so I can play outside.

Any good tips? :)

  1. it is all timing i now some guys at our beach that are 5'11 and hit the ball staright down work on timing and calves for better spring

  2. Work on your hand contact. Once you contact the ball well on every hit, you will have very good accuracy and get good spin to bring the ball down.

To do this you should practice hitting against a wall, or practice jump serving a lot. Focus on your contact with the ball each time. When you get a poor hit, think about why.

Try to get your whole hand on the ball with fingers apart. Try to remember how it felt when you got a hit with good spin, and make an effort to hit more like that each time.

  3. Well I suggest hitting harder. Maybe it's because you're left handed. I am an outside & I think I got there because I just did. Maybe you should show the coach you can do it because you rock :]]

  4. Make sure you have a great approach, and don't hesitate when you do it. Make it a quick but controlled movement. Keep your eye on the ball (but also know where the players on the other team are), and make sure your body is behind the ball. Don't be late and let the ball drop (then you have to tip :P). Always anticipate that your setter will set to you. Smash. Open hands, hit down. Communicate with your setter. Hopefully your coach can set up some hitting lines for you to practice.

And there is no shame in Opposite Hitting. Our best hitter is one.

  5. practice hitting against the wall before practice. ask ur coach if you can stay after a little bit with ur setter and practice hitting

also...even ask if you can hit outside during hitting lines once in a while.

i asked to hit middle during practice to try hitting slides and i was better than our middle hitters at it so during the games where he'd take a middle out for doing stupid mistakes he'd put me in to shaken them up a bit. FUN FOR ME... sucked for them! lol

  6. practice....... you should practice getting the right height on the ball and getting on top of it. Snapping your wrist helps too, a good approach with the right sett and if you snap and hit the ball hard and lean into it that makes the perfect combination for an awesome spike!!!! but make sure that when you do your approach you land with your feet pointed towards the setter and aim for a corner when hitting!!!!! you should sail smoothly through the ball and slam it down in your opponents face. GOOD LUCK :)

  7. go left right right JUMP HIGH [[or it wont work]] and smack the ball right into the ground. flick your wrist!!! the left right left footwork wil probably take about a year to work perfectly. or atleast it did for me.

  8. Spiking is all about the timing. So work on your timing you can't be too early or too late. Just keep practicing with a setter until you got the timing right. Also work on the foot work to give you more power and more height. To get more height do pylos. Hope it helped! Good luck ;)

  9. practice with a hammer.

find a spare piece of wood, and start some 2 inch nails into the wood (tap in about 1/4").  Then with your spiking hand drive the nails in hard.

This will build your spiking muscles and when you go play, you drive down through the ball like you are hammering a nail.

  10. So the timing is everything, you need to know how long it will take you to get up there and when to hit the ball. You should hit the ball with the heel of your hand and when you hit it, flick your wrist and curve it over the ball to give it spin that is hard to recover. Good spots to hit are the back of the court, holes in the floor, and sidelines. That way teams have a tough time deciding if it is out or not.

Hope this helps and I wish you luck. :)

  11. Get together with your setter and ask her what she needs from you to be able to set to you more often. sometimes letting your setter know that you want to be a factor will help her get you involved more. If you can, go a little early to practice or to an open gym and get some swings in. Become better at the whole game - pass more, even practice your setting. Make sure your setter hears and sees you are ready for the ball on offense. Let your setter know you can move to the ball to save a tough set - make yourself into an option be being versatile...

You can do this - good luck!

  12. Hit the ball harder and downwards! It really works!
