will this work? I have Design Master flat black spray paint http://www.createforless.com/Design+Master+Colortool+Paint+Flat+Black+12+oz/pid14379.aspx?utm_source=googlebase&utm_medium=cse

it says it works on plastic and wood, so Im assuming that it can be used on (what I think is) laminated wood...its like MDF sort of, but has a plastic-looking surface. would I need to sand any of it first? the drawers are painted with flat paint.

and the drawers have a lot of detail..will it collect in the corners or will it be fine?

all of the surfaces are white by the way.

thanks a bunch!

  1. I had a bedroom set similar to the picture, I used Krylon spray paint for plastic and it held up well.  I took the pieces outside and turned them upside down, as the tops were wood and I liked that.  Sprayed very light coats because if I did it heavy the paint did pool in the detailed parts, I think that I ended up using 3 coats. Be sure to take off the hardware before painting, that way you dont have to worry about paint on the handles. ~Good luck

  2. If it is laminated, you can use Paseo liquid sand.  I find it takes off enough of the gloss without sanding and running the risk of scratches which often happens when sanding laminates.  You will need to remove the hardware and take the drawers out to paint them.  If you don't want the inside of the dresser to get over spray, mask it off.  The same goes for the insides of the drawers.  I really recommend getting one of the trigger sprayers they sell at the home improvement stores.  It will save finger fatigue but also helps with getting smooth even strokes.  To get the decorative detail on the front, put the dresser on its back so that you are spraying it horizontally not vertically.  In my experience, this will help avoid runs and will keep it from getting too thick and distorting the dimension.

  3. I would use a Satin finish or KRYLON spray made especially for plastic. I had my shutters painted out doors and they are doing great. They are plastic too. Great stuff !  Read the label.....
