  1. http://www.squidoo.com/mossfarming

This site recommends raising the acidity of the soil where you want the moss to grow by sprinkling on instant milk.

I think the blender/puree method is used primarily to get moss growing on flowerpots, brickwork, etc.

I have had good luck with transplanting moss within the same soil where it is growing.  It peels up like carpeting and I just put it down wherever I want it  in that same area and water it a bit.

  2. As you have already mentioned you will need to keep the area shaded and moist. Moss can and does grow on sandy soil so you could leave it as is or add a bit of topsoil to the area and mix it in - flatten it out and now you are ready for the moss.

Go out and collect a handful or two or three of nice green moss, then head to the grocery store and get a quart of buttermilk. Put the moss and buttermilk in a blender and puree them together - then pour the solution (slurry) over the area where you would like the moss to grow. If the conditions are right, you should have a beautiful moss garden in no time.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your dog.

  3. Point the grave to the north

  4. It all depends one which direction your garden faces.  IF it faced in northern ( where you live in north hemisphere ) then it wouldn't be any problem at all if you planted them between small trees or hedge.

I ever been to a famous Kyoto temple where is reknown for it's own moss garden.  The soil of sand seems not able to hold a lot of water what moss favors, suppose loam type of soil.  And the most is planted on the halfway of mountain with less sunlight and between lot of pretty tall pine trees.

Also you need to spinkle water to them twice in the summer one in the morning and the other is right after sunset.

Also there must no wind passing through your garden that moss disllike.

Also you need to do such kind of homework or garden works as those monk to sweep off the leaves on moss and pick out all unwanted weeds in moss.

It would not be bed if you were loaded you could put some river rock stone or little statues between the bush and on the moss like Zen garden, it all depends on how you got such kind imagination...(*__________*) or not.

I hope you got a pretty picturistic moss garden that I like it so much and hope you enjoy gardening through this .
