  1. Have fished the surf on & off for many years.

You can go nuts w/ tackle & accessories.

All kinds of good rod & reel combos out there.

Eg.I use a Daiwa 9-1/2' spinning combo. which is fine for my area, but may not be the thing for where you are.

"Best" bait & lures change w/ location also.

Talk to locals & see what they prefer as far as tackle, bait   &  lures.

I whittled my tackle down to a few essentials that I carry in a small soft case w/ some boxes in it for  both freshwater & saltwater.

Would say this is the most important tip & strongly recommend quick release suspenders worn over your jacket if you plan on using waders.

Standing in the surf at sunrise or sunset is a beautiful  thing , but not if you get knocked over, your waders or hip boots fill up & you drown.

    Best regards

  2. I assume you're in the UK due to your q+a and after some research and calls these came up, they are good saltwater rods, add either a abu 7000 reel or a penn 525 super mag and you have a quality beach casting rod, good baits to try are ragworm, peeler crab, squid, lug worm. Also worth a try is the century carbon metal, if you're not confident in casting a  fixed spool reel may be allot easier for you to use

  3. I dont know what your budget is, but I would go for a beach casting combo deal, with a fixed spool type reel to start with. I bought a PENN Surfblaster Roughstuff 14ft rod which is a good all round heavy beach/rough ground rod for the price. I got that for £80 brand new. If you buy a combo, you will also get a reel included in the price. I cannot advise you on a fixed spool reel, as I use multipliers only. When buying a rod, you will find abbreviations such as M and F/S. M means multiplier, and F/S means fixed spool. This is the way the rods eyes are set up on the rod. Any more questions just ask. Tight lines!!
