I want to start blacksmithing as a hobby where do i start?

Where I always start is the library......first thing I do is read everything I can find.....

Then I think I would buy a three-pound hammer from Sears....

Check out local historical societies.  I belong to the Illinois Valley Blacksmith Association.  ABANA is another organization that could help you out.  There are lots of clubs across the country.  Do a search for Blacksmith associations and look for one in your area.  

There are a lot of things you can do to get started cheaply.  You can use a brake drum as a coal forge, with a vacuum exhaust for a blower.  You need to learn a lot of basics.  A common saying in the blacksmith community is, "You have to fill a 5 gallon bucket with attempts before you get one right."
