  1. yz85 is the first bike i got i was 5'2 and 13. it is a good fast bike. for gear just ged a good helmet, boots, proper clothing, gloves, chest proctecter, and a neck brace. i dont race but i ridden track with other riders and the first time i got scared when a bike passed me so dont panic.

  2. I just started motocross too, but I know a lot on auto mechanics. When people say get an 80 or a 250, they're talking about engine size. I suggest a Honda XR 100cc (XR is just the model of the bike). A XR is a very good starter bike but if you've had some expirence in motocross, get a larger engine size. There are some heavy expenses when starting motocross. When I first bought all the gear it came together as $685 (This all depends on what kind of gear you get. All of my gear is Fox, except the boots which are Alpinstars.). They're are other brands that are cheaper though. I haven't been able to race yet due to a broken collarbone, so I don't know much about racing yet. By the way you can get hurt a lot if you're not careful. Good Luck and have fun! It really is a great sport, you just have to be careful.

  3. there are tons of tracks around the pac NW like the first guy said go to a track and check it out for yourself... MX is an expensive hobby and a very expensive habit....you will average $2 or 300 a weekend racing thats after you buy all the gear and the bike. as for those I recommend the CRF150R dont bother with the 2strokes..the people that race up there are great and many of them will help you any way they can.... dont forget that you have to have mom and dad onboard with your new sport....once you have that keep trying and practice as much as you can...

  4. The crf150r would be a good bike for your size.  you are too short for the 250cc at 5ft 3 so I would suggest you give that a miss until you have grown a bit.

The only way to find out about racing is to visit the local clubs closest to you and decide which one you would like to join.  Speak to a few people and ask a few questions to find out what other requirements there are for racing where you are.

Make sure you invest in all the right gear like, shin guards, elbow guards, chest armour, goggles, good helmet, boots, and gloves.

  5. At 5'3" you only have so many options really, any of the 85cc motocross bikes or the Honda CRF150R. So basically you have 6 bikes to choose from; Honda CR85 or CRF150R, Kawasaki KX85, Suzuki RM 85, Yamaha YZ85 or the KTM 85SX.

  6. Your gonna want a an 85cc, Yahmahas would be the best bike for you because the power is evenly spread, plus there very reliable. Your getting yourself into a world of pain and doctor bills, but it is the best thing youll ever do. Your gonna want a helment obviously, knee pads, elbow pads (optional they are nice to have though)chest protecter, jersey and pants. Probably about $3000 for a bike, 200 or 250 for a helmet, and all the other gear about 300, and dont forget gas money. Hope that helped

  7. I'm 14 and 5' 6" and i race a YZ85, and I'm going to race it one more year after this.  So I would get an 85, don't get the 250, it would be way to powerfull, and you might be a bit small for it.  As far as gear goes, you need a jersey, pants, gloves, goggles, a helmet, and boots.  All of that together can range from $250-$1000 dollars, depending on how much you want to spend.  Also with bike maintenance (especially a 2-stroke) you can be spending mony like crazy.  Aftermarket exhaust (pipe and silencer) are about $230 dollars.  You can modify a lot of things on your bike, for example my friend rides a 2003 YZ85, and he has put $7000 worth of aftermarket parts on his bike.  So you can spend a lot of money on that.  But me, with the purchase of my bike last year and all the parts that I have put on it only adds up to about $2000, so you can take the cheap way out as well.  Hope that helped.

  8. the most important thing is proper protection, if you have all the gear protecting you from your feet to your head than your good to go. the perfect bike for your is made by honda and is called the crf-150r, it is a very reliable bike and is perfect to learn on. when you become a better rider it also is the best four stroke to race in the 85 class (the group of junior dirtbikers to race in).

a 250 is a full size bike, im 15 5'7'' with a 250 and i can barely sit on it with one foot on the ground.

so my best advice would be to go to your local dirt bike store and ask to see the crf-150. anyone in the store should be able to help you with the right protective gear.

  9. I'm 13 but I'm really tall ( 6 foot 1 ) and i have been in the sport for ages...the gear is quite expensive but you start with the basics like gloves and helmet and see how you like the sport first.

I would get a cheap bike because it doesn't really make much of a difference at this level. anyway browse the net for 125cc dirt bikes for sale. when people say 250 and 125 etc, they refer to the power. So that why i recommend a 125, its power full but you can still get them in small sizes for beginners.. anyway good luck, i hope find what u want :)

  10. You need to go to your local motocross track and watch..Check out the kids your size and age..Ask some questions...They might let you sit on a bike or two....See what feels right to you...As far as gear and expenses..you will also find that out at the track..

This is your homework...I want to hear back on how it went...
