I want to start motorcross racing, i want to know what i need to start and what bike i should get?

Im gunna be 14 on the 7th of september im 5'9 and about 130 pounds. People said for the league i would have to be racing in i should get a crf150r. What gear what i need and were can i get more info. Thanks for everyones answer!

first go to a couple races and see if you still like it. then talk to your parents about it because it can be VERY dangerous!! Then look around at motocross bikes, and read up on it. The look at stores/online at helmets, gear, chest/back protectors, boots, goggles, jersey, raceing pants, elbow pads..and even more. because it is also very expensive. A pair of raceing boots (which have to be above your ankles to race) can range from $100.00 to $300.00. other wise i would start off with a 85 cc or a 105- ktm. i have a honda 2004 85cc. it works great. also make sure you buy a motocross bike that is water cooled, other wise it might over heat.

You are too tall for a crf150r and in fact any taller than about 5ft 6 5ft 7 is getting too tall for one.  

It is a bit of a shame that you are too tall as it would be a good starting place for a 14 year old, but perhaps have  a look at any of the 250f's that are available as they would be better for someone your height.

Make sure you get all the safety gear, chest guard, elbow guards, shin guards or knee braces, boots, goggles, helmet, pants and jersey, kidney belt and if you can afford it a leatt brace.

Do lots of practice days before attempting to race so you get used to being around other bikes and always hold your line when on the track with other riders.  There is nothing worse than a rider who wanders over the track.  The better riders will pass cleanly and you just have to trust that they know what they are doing.

Can I throw another advice your way, once you have chosen that dream bike for motocross racing, a trip to http://ama-cycle.org/ will allow you to race. Anymore when racing, it is now manditory to join this organization, since most race events are sanctioned by AMA. It will alos protect your right to ride as well, something to think about.
