Question:

I want to start my own interior design business? Any advice?

I graduated from college with a degree in education but now i really be an interior designer and start my own business. I have a natural talent for it, but i don't have the first clue about how to go about securing money and starting abusiness. Can anyone offer me some tips?

  1. Since you have no experience in the interior design industry, I would strongly suggest getting a job working for an interior design firm before you try your own thing.

    You need to learn how the industry works, how to deal with client and vendors, the correct terminology.     If you start your own business right away with no experience, you will not be able to compete against designers who have design education AND experience.

    Additionally, there is much more to owning a business than just working with clients,    you need a good business sense as well.    Cash Flow, Financial Plannign, Marketing, Supervision of Employees, and more will be part of your job as the owner of your own business.  It's not for everyone.    I would suggest if you get a job as a design assistant,  pay close attention to how the owner handles the non-design aspects of the job.


  2. Well... I don't know any tips... But my dream is to be an interior designer... Sorry that i can't help you with this question!!!! Basically i think that YOU can help ME...cause i would like to learn about the college you studed at... I mean which is? Where it is? Was it hard to learn more about interior design? How long did it last??? Please answer to me via e-mail!!!! I would be thankfull!!!!!

    P.S. I have a natural talent too... or that's what i believe and what everyone else tell me....!!!
