Question:

I want to start my own "Rent baby items" business...?

So this just came into my head... I was thinking about renting out baby items such as cribs, baby toys, high chairs, baby tubs, car seats and so on... to people who visit my area on vacation or for whatever reason. How could I advertise for people who would be traveling to my area?

Do you think it would work? Is it a good idea? What do I need besides all the items? Would you use something like this on vacation?

  1. Where I live there are a couple of businesses like this. I think its a great idea.

  2. Billboards or newspaper. I think this is a great idea! Every time I go and visit family it is such a hassle to get everything loaded up plus have room for everything else as well. I would also say to make sure that the item is cleaned very well before renting it back out. If need be, charge for cleaning too. Don't allow someone to clean it on there own and think that they did a good job. WHAT A WONDERFUL IDEA!

  3. Actually, this does work depending on the area that you live in.

My sister's friend lives in an area where there are TONS of lake cabins and has a business like this out of her home (actually, an outbuilding), although the toys rented are all large things like those play kitchens and slides and stuff. I'm not even sure that she advertises, but I've never asked.  Her overhead is low because the business is on her home property.  It is very seasonal.

You should see a lawyer about what kind of liability you need and if you need special signoffs for things like cribs since they have to be partially assembled by the renter.

While this depends on your area, she also rents out jackets and sweaters of all sizes.  It is not unusual to go up to your cabin when it is 85 in the shade and two days later, it's in the 50s and you have nothing warm.

  4. Great idea!  Just be sure that no products have been recalled and dont carry any car seats.  Once a car seat is in an accident it shouldnt be used and you never know what has happened to one of your products once it is in the renters hands.... just not worth the worry or liability.

    Good luck!!!!

  5. i think it's a good idea it would work i think u got everything in mind right by like having car seats high chairs cribs that sounds great a good way to advertise is to get in touch with hotels in your area and see if they'll advertise you
