  1. First get a job at a storage business and save the pay checks.  Learn as much as you can about customer service, maintenance, costs, suppliers, etc.

Stay in school and take accounting at college (it will save you a lot of $$ if you can do it yourself) and a business writing course.

Also try get jobs at companies that do jobs you will have to do when you have your own business such as do sales for a company.

Also try and build your credit rating and keep it really good.  Build assets (a car is NOT an asset, bonds and oil are).

Make sure you have family support when you start, they will be there on the bad days and are also great free labor.

Banks have great books on starting your own business, they can be a wealth of information.

After years in my own business you will have good days/months and bad ones.  You just have to keep at it and push forward.  You also have to be a jack of all trades and do all functions (clean toilets, be the accountant, and the web designer, sales manager, etc.).  The best part is you get to pick which 20 hours a day you want to work.

Just remember when you start it is not worth having a sale if you don't make money on the sale.  Know your costs and don't cut our your profit just to have a sale.
