I want to start playing lacrosse?

Okay, so I'm going to be a freshman when this school year starts, and I will turn 15 in October. I'm not really worried about sucking because the school team is already horrible so I'll fit right in haha. I want to know what people mean when they say lacrosse is a "contact sport". Does that mean that I'm going to get hit in the face with the metal sticks or that I might get pushed around a little? The only sport I've played is soccer, and I have a tendency to hit and trip people (mostly accidentally!). Are the refs a little more lenient on that kind of stuff in lacrosse?

I also hear you have to run a TON. What kinds of things should I do to improve my stamina? I'm totally out of shape right now, and I want to start exercising more (hence the whole "new sport" thing).

I really don't want to play lacrosse for the sport, mostly so I can just get out and do something. Should I be playing some other sport instead? And if so, what?
