I want to start playing magic?

Question

I really have no idea what goes on in the game but i want to start playing it with my friends. What is the purpose of the game, what deck should i buy, and anything else i should no on the game.

Hey E-Man don't listen to Brandon, he doesn't know what he's talking about. Magic the Gathering is awesome. Being as its the number one trading card game worldwide. As far as what you would want to do as a beginner, is visit your local Card store and buy some cards.

Now there are 5 different types of cards and then there is artifacts, the colorless cards.

Black - great for all players, can sometimes be confusing, but definitely, great for helping you win.

Blue- good at control;ling your oppenents and how they play.

White good for life gain

Green strong creatures that allow for heavy damage and awesome destruction

Red - also great for a quick hit at your opponent, these cards hit fast and hard.

Just to let you know I recommend you get a Shadowmoor constructed deck, color is your choice, or a Shadowmoor tournament pack. By getting a tournament pack you get a bunch of random cards packed in together with 30 lands and 3 rares and few uncommons, etc. It's better as a beginner to get the constructed decks.

Anyway point of maigc is to "kill" your opponent. Everyone has 20 life and you play one land per turn if you have one. The videos will explain more. Hope this helps.

Since you are new to the game you may also be interested in peasant magic, which is basically playing with no rares, so you dont have to spend as much money.

Keep in mind that if want a successful deck play with at least 20 mana and the rest is up to you. Also generally the rules go by a 4 copy maximum, or in other words you can only have a copy a card in your deck 4 times, except Basic Lands and relentless rats, but the rats card doesn't make a difference for you.
