  1. Smaller players usually play better as forwards/runners which is more fun imo.

But I don't think you would get hurt unless you are much shorter than the other backs.

  2. You don't have to be big to play any position in rugby, its not all about size its about technique. if you start playing for a team they'll give you all the training you need and you'll be well on your way.

  3. You don't have to be big to be good. I've played with guy's anywhere from 5'2" to 6'10" from 135 lbs to 300 lbs and everything in between.

Smaller players can easily make up for lack of size with speed, fitness, desire, strength, determination, aggression, etc. I've played with lots people and it's really a combination of all their assets that make them a good Rugby player. Size is only one of the factors. And yes, if you play some positions in the backs it tends to be less of a factor than in the forwards.

  4. There is an expression about things being a 'man's game' you had better believe it because there is no where 'safe' on the pitch and I speak as someone who had their knee wrecked and seen all manner of injuries. Take up a martial art like bushido - at least you get to wear body armour!

  5. If your heart is right then size doesn't matter. Many people might argue about this, but have a look at guys like Bret Russel, Gio Aplon etc. They are really small but with ball in hand they are devastating.

Watch some Currie Cup rugby and see what the small guys really can do.

  6. i say go for it!!! if u neva try u neva knw....

same thing happened with me and hockey... three years on, a few injuries, still playing and luvin every moment of it too!!

  7. If you want to start playing rugby you are half way there.  Get along to a good club, speak to some players and the coach and you will get all the advice you need.  It is a great game, great pals and you meet some 'interesting' people.

  8. Why do you want to be a 'Egg chaser'??

  9. if you're short and stocky you'll do best as a scrum half or as a winger.
