  1. The best way to learn is to take lessons.  But before you start you might want to invest in a pair of riding boots, or boots with a heal, breeches (if you're riding English) and a helmet.  Make sure you stretch before your lesson, which will help you to be less sore afterwards.  Have fun!  I started riding when I was 10 and have been riding ever since.  It's the one thing I miss the most since entering the "real" world and doing the whole 9-5 job.

  2. I'm sure you are going to get all the instruction you need once you start your lessons. Horses are wonderful, and you should be a great age to start learning. Wear comfortable yet sturdy pants (like jeans) and shoes you don't mind getting dirty. They don't have to be boots, but at least a tough pair of sneakers. Just be aware that animals (horses) can pick up on your moods and emotions. Just be calm and relaxed and your horse should be too. I'm sure if you are just starting out the instructor will pick an easygoing horse for you. For more info. check out this wikipedia entry:

Best of luck to you friend. Enjoy!

  3. I've been doing riding for 3 years now, and i remember when i first started. All you need right now are jeans or tight pants and pointed boots. You'll be fine! on your first day of your riding lesson, you'll probably walk around the ring and learn how to post to a trot. Shoulders back and heels down!

  4. Usually you have to wear a helmet, but at lesson barns, they're usually provided.

You should wear jeans and a hard sole shoe like a boot with a small heal, but not too wide of a boot... it's for safety so that your foot can't get stuck in the stirrups.  Boots are recommended because horses can step on you and it'll hurt a lot worse in tennis shoes than in boots.

Once you're riding, the key things to remember are to keep your legs long, your heels down, and keep your head up and look where you want the horse to go.  Other than that, you just need to get the feel of the horse moving underneath you.

    Have fun!  You'll love it!

  5. 1. Stay calm horses can sense what your feeling, so if your nervous, they will be too.

2.They will probaly teach about grooming and all that stuff, so you don't need to worry about that.

3Just have fun! I've been riding for 3 years now and I LOVE it! It's loads of fun and it's great forming bonds with all the horses. In fact I might be leasing one soon!
