Question:

I want to start running. Help?

I work out every day for 45 minutes to an hour. I've lost 23 pounds and I'm fairly in shape.

But whenever I try to run I just can't run for more than 5 minutes. So I must be going about this whole running thing wrong. How can I get started running?

I already eat a very healthy diet, drink plenty of water, and I have a very nice pair of running shoes I just bought. So what else do I need to do?

Thanks!

  1. You can't run because you're out of air or because you're bored? You could start by walking as a warm up then run for five minutes then walk for a break then run another five minutes and keep alternating for an hour. This was how I started running at a mile above sea level. Hard to breathe up here. :) I can now run for 30 minutes straight no problem.

When I get bored I think of the next landmark on my route. I've got a fountain, prairie dogs, a view of the mountains, a train track crossing, my lap marker is just a square on the sidewalk. There's flowering trees and hills. I never think about being bored because I'm thinking about how my breathing is doing, my heart rate, my pace. I wonder if I'm getting tanned. I listen to music.

Also having a cute outfit that works good for your running helps us girls. ;)

  2. Run on a trail thats relaxing, Run bye the beach, or get a big dog and run with the dog.

  3. You need to start to have endurance. So I would suggest that you run for 10 min and than stop until your heart rate is back to normal then run for 15 min and then repeat the pattern until you reach 30 min and do that every day. Also while you are running talk to someone or listen to music and try to have fun. Time will pass by quickly
