I want to start running to improve cardiovascular strength but I don't want to lose weight. Is there a way that I could run that would benefit my body but not cause me to lose a lot of weight?

  1. To gain or lose weight you have to control the amount of calories you consume and the amount of calories you burn.

Running uses about 100 calories per mile.

No matter how many miles you run you can always eat more calories than you use while running.

It is important to improve and maintain your cardiovascular system, and you don't have to lose weight to do so.

You need to run about 20 minutes at least 3 times each week to have a training effect.

At that rate you would only need to increase your calories about 200 for each day you train to maintain your weight.

  2. Running doesn't necessarily cause you to loose weight unless you reduce your calorie intake or are running long distances.  If anything, you will gain weight in numbers because you will be building up your muscle mass which weighs more than fat.
