I used to be a semi-professional inline skater a while ago but had to quit due to medical reasons. I am wondering if it is quite similar to rollerblading and what snow blades to buy. Do you need to buy different bindings and boots to skiis. I cant get my head around it all there is no information online and not a single question on here. Would very much appreciate if someone could give loads of information.

  1. I believe it's called snowboarding.  And it is quite different than in line skating.  I've surfed, wind surfed, skateboarded, skied, roller skated, and snowboarding isn't like any of the above.  I'd take a lesson, rent the equipment, and wear a helmut.

  2. Dont get snowblades!! They are horrible and are generally worn by weirdos that think wearing jeans in the snow is a good idea. Snow blades are fairly unskilled and just awful, ask any seasoned skier/rider and they will tell you exactly the same thing. They bare no similarity to rollerblading. I would definitely go with ski's or a snowboard over snow blades anyday! You will learn much more things on skis or a snowboard. Please take my advice, you will see what I mean when you get to a resort.

  3. Snow blades are very different than snowboards.  Snow blades are about 12" longer than your ski boot, and have a non release binding that then requires you to use a runaway strap or leash. Salomon made some snowblades a few years ago, they are a blast on firm slopes, worthless in deep snow. Basic physics prevent the short blades from supporting your weight in deep conditions. The snow blades do not need ski poles, but your balance is very subtle.  I had a ball on them last winter, they do improve your skills in all areas except speed. Ask at specialty ski shops, they may need to order them for you.

  5. Yeah its pretty close to rollerblading, I would recommend buying any line ski boards off of ebay, they are quality. The boots you use are just regular ski boots, there are different ski board bindings that people use, but you could use ski bindings if you wanted, when i ski boarded years ago I just got line ski board bindings with it, but I would just get whatever is cheaper because it doesn't really matter, Line Mike Nick are the best ones built
