  1. I learned this from my neighbor, who's son is deaf....

The sign language that is taught to babies is different that is signed to ASL(American Sign Language) taught older children. Just a thought.

Here is one site and your local library should have books on signing.

    http://edu-cyberpg.com/Linguistics/BabyS...

  2. I used the book "Baby Signs" when I taught my son sign language.  Many of the signs for animals etc in ASL(American sign language) can also be used.  Get a book on ASL for children (check amazon.com) and use that.  Also try the web site below it is an on line ASL dictionary.

  3. Boy scout groups or their books usually have the sign language chart

  4. A lot of the smaller colleges have 'continuing education' classes that are geared towards kids - the one up the road from me has one called 'sign and sing' for kids 18mos to 3years. Start at your local community college and go from there.

  5. A great site is http://www.babysigns.com.  It has easy to use signs and a store from which you can purchase signing books and other references.  I often recommend this site to parents of children with speech/language/hearing difficulties, as well as to those who just want to give their child a jumpstart on language.  Signing is a wonderful communication tool for toddlers!  It really helps open up the communication lines and can eliminate many behaviors due to lack of language skills.  I used it with my younger daughter starting when she was just 10 months old, and by the time she started speaking, she was using about 20 signs fluently.  It really cut down on the frustration level for both of us.  Have fun!
