I know I need a beginner board to start at least over 3 meters. Soooooo I guess i am just looking for advice on what type of board I need, what size or style sail would work best with that board and any advice you have on auxillary equipment or windsurfing in general.

I live in Rhode Island and the beach on which i would use the board has fairly small waves... 3-5 feet and wind around 10 knots on a normal day.

  1. 10 knots or less on 5 feet waves may be a bit light. I would suggest a not-too-short board. I would go for 3.5 meters or so. Fully floating. For the sail, I would go for a full-battened 5 square meters one: a tradeoff between being easy to handle (smaller) and have enough power to deal with the waves (bigger). Make sure your board has a good daggerboard - you need to be able to tack before you learn to jibe.

Don't waste money on a new board or sail-rig. These should be used for you to learn and then keep as a memory while you move on to something more advanced.

And enjoy! Once you start it will be hard to quit.

  2. U should really consider kite boarding instead . It is alot more fun in my opinion. You would need to get a leson or two so that u know how to get started. Just a thought
