(ANS) YES!! this is a VERY very common and very annoying problem and many many people suffer from this too. There are a limited number of things you can do to tackle the problem.

No.1 if the junk or spam mail (i.e. whats called "unsolicited" mail), mail sent to you from someone you've never heard of before for something that your not interested in like Viagra etc. This is the main problem on the Internet and all you can do is filter it using software like "Mail washer pro" or use a service like  Zero Spam (http://www.0spam.com) its a free service 100% self service and free for x1 pop3 mail account.

No.2 if the junk mail is being sent from only one or two companies you might be able to contact them and ask to be removed from their mailing list. This does work in most cases with legitimate companies here in the UK.

No.3 For Junk snail mail you can contact the "Mail Prefernce service" and register for free and this should reduce junk mail coming though your letter box.

**For junk faxes there is the Fax Preference service too.

No.4 Talk to your ISP to see if they can help you, perhaps they have a junk mail filtering system that you can have enabled on your email account.

No.5 you can have your email (if it is a catch all account) changed from a catch all type set up to a specific email address. So that only email to your new specific address is received all the junk sent to your catch all address just gets binned.

Get a shadow email for anything which might generate junk and use it when you do things that produce junk mail.
