I am about to study for my highers (A-levels) and i have to rent a flat, i REALLY don't want a flat-share, i have done this before and it was horrible, so i have to work full-time.

Does anybody have any experience of working AND studying full time?

I finish college at 3.15pm monday to friday and i was thinking about getting a job where i can start at 5pm and finish at 11pm for 5/6 days a week. Is this too much?!

Any help would be nice, thanks.

  1. It depends how good you are at handling stress and how much sleep you need a night. I was working full time and doing a degree part time for four years and it was really hard. I had no life outside of work because was always studying. I lost a lot of friends because I always said no to going out. It might be something that you won't know until you try it.

  2. it'll be ok but gonna be tiring. worth it in the end tho and a good laugh!!

  3. It's waaaaay too much. Honestly.

You'll have no time to study and you'll constantly be tired.

It's not good to constantly be doing something, you need a break.

  4. When do you intend to do your homework / course work and revision?

If you really need to work full time then you would be better working and studying a couple of A Levels in the evening. Take them over three years instead of two, maybe one A level and 1 AS in each year (I know highers are a bit different).

  5. Yes, I did this and got a good degree.  Just make sure you get casual work so if your work gets too much they will let you have some time off.

  6. I think you will find it too much. You need to bear in mind that you will have assignments to do and will need time for this.. You also wont have any time for socialising.

If you are working this many hours you might as well flat share because you will never be there anyway.

  7. My son did that, he hated flat sharing so rented a 1 bed house. he stacked shelves in Tesco for 3 years then did a MSC in Birmingham. Tesco transfered him.. He found it ok and really valued his home life.

Give it a try. Lots of Luck.x

  8. Well, if your class are done by 3:15, you obviously don't take that many classes/credits, so you should be able to manage it. I'm in college and my classes are constant from 8AM-8PM so...

  9. It would be ok for a degree i guess but a-levels - DEFINITELY, DEFINITELY NOT. I do four hours a week and do my a-levels and I struggle. Unless you want to get E's and U's, I'd suggest otherwise. Good luck :-)
