agra and the taj.

vrindavin, a small, forested, holy town which is the birthplace of krishna.

then either go to the desert or the mountains.

for the desert,

jaipur.

pushkar.

and other cities in rajasthan.

for himachal pradesh ,

manali and

dharamsala, where the tibetans are.

that's about it. spend 2 or 3 days in each place. don't try to see too much in 2 weeks.

Do any one region and enjoy the beauty and if it is rainy season then one has to slow down.You have not mentioned time of visit. As an avid traveller I can give you my opinion and as I have done these areas.

Day1 for Delhi and another day on your return.

Day 2  Ex Agra from Delhi

In Uttar Pradesh Lucknow and Varanasi. Then you could move to Hills--Bhimtal, Nainital,Ranikhet, Kasauni, Pithoragarh etc

Then you could either go and do 10 days trip to Himachal----Shimla, Chail, Shilon Bagh,kullu, Manali, Kinnaur, Manikaran Etc

Or go to Uttarakhand---Haridwar, Rishikesh, Dehra Dun, Mussorie, Dhanolti Etc

Or Rajasthan---Jaipur, Ajmer, Pushkar, Chittor, Nathdwara, Udaipur and back. One could fly to Udaipur and see all places en route by road. Or from Udaipur go to Mt Abu Via Ranakpur --beautiful Jain temples , if you like architecture. From Mt Abu a direct train to Delhi

Another belt is Jaipur, Ajmer, Pushkar, Jodhpur, Pokhran, Jaisalmer . Return to Jodhpur and leave for Bikaner and then to Delhi by train.

One can enter Rajasthan From Agra but it is not safe for some time  lately.

if it's only you, go for a tour from a private company like panicker's travel(recommended agency)  and there are loads of such travel companies in india.

If there a minimum of 3 people, take a car from an agency.( there are many agencies in india that provide cars and drivers who'll drive you to anywher you want) it's more comfy and easy, no hurries to be on time or sumthing.

I think you should go for a travel agency. They can arrange a whole tour itinerary for you including your desired destinations.

For e.g. you can opt for a Golden triangle that includes a tour to the historical monuments of Delhi, Jaipur n Agra.

i have made three private tours of india in three successive decembers. for my first i did an air tour with an airline circuit pass, visiting delhi/agra, jaipur, mumbai, trivandrum, chennai, hyderabad and back to delhi. you can book the flights and then book accomodations in each city and take local tours with reputable agencies in each city. this is less expensive than using a group package or hiring one tour agency for the entire trip. for the other two years, i knew where i wanted to go and hired a car and driver. i was able to get good prices and enjoyed the luxury of seeing the things that interested me at my own pace. if you know what you want, most car hires are very very cooperative in working with you. of course, price is a matter of negotiation. i would recommend openly discussing with several agencies and letting them know that you are talking to others, the pricing will be more competitve. the good thing about planning your own trip is that you have to do some research about india and learn for yourself how wonderfully diverse and beautiful it is. 14 days will be too short but you may come away with a life changing experience especially if you plan it well.

Undertake a tour that goes in this order . It will work out great.

first delhi , all local sight seeing all monuments fatehpur sikri etc and also karol bagh for shopping.

Next go to agra and finish taj mahal sight seeing.

all this in 3 days.

4th day set out north . HIMACHAL PRADESH OR JAMMU AND KASHMIR.

Say you choose kashmir. Now you have about 10 days . So here's this itinery.

First Srinagar . From there you can visit sonmarg , gulmarg , pahalgam . Dont forget the houseboat stay at dal lake. All this in 5 days.Undertake the amarnath yatra from Srinagar if possible. That would make srinagar stay 7 or 8 days.

Then head to jammu via katra . Visit mata vaishno devi temple at katra . It is a 15 km walk. It is a world famous temple.Then head to jammu. You'll have to return from jammu back to delhi and home.(the place you belong)

India is 2 big. Taj is in State U.P.  U can also c goddess river Ganga and many "Lord Krishn & Ram" tamples, severl hill stations and monuments in UP. If u have more time and $ u can also go Madhya Pradesh & Rajasthan, the nearest states from UP.
