My wife and I want to take a vacation to Mexico. We would like to go to a place that is relaxing and away from the normal party style places. We'd like to stay some place where there are not a lot of people, that's cheap, nice, quite, relaxing and has things to do as well.

Any help in this would be great.

Currently we are looking at maybe Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, Mexico. Around 1 July 2008, for about 8 nights.

  2. Puerto Escondido is a good choice there are several reasonable places to stay both on and near the beach (Zicaletla).Actually you can find reasonable places to stay at or near all the beaches in Mexico.I look for the lowest R/T airfare to,or close to a beach first because the airfare is often the most expensive part of the trip (for me) Once I'm in Mexico my daily expenses(Hotel, food, transportation etc.) are less than US $50 a day even in the most popular beach destinations.Like you I  also pefer the smaller, quiet, less crowded destinations. If you have any questions about any other destinations in Mexico feel free to email me.

    Have a great trip!

  3. Oaxaca is a good choice.  Its hot down there and humid but Oaxaca city is quite nice at this time of year.

You can spend a day or two exploring the ruins.  If you wish to go to Puerto Escondido it is a lot more laid back(if you know what I mean) quiet relative to some resorts.

Off season hotel rates are  in effect and you can practically name your price

Do NOT travel by bus at night in any direction from P.E.

  4. Oh! You have to go to Playa Chacala it sounds like exactly what your looking for. Its a little fishing village just north of Puerta Vallarta. Its just starting to get hot with tourists now so prices are still low (we stayed at a place for $10 a night)  and its beautiful! Right on the beach and so quite and layed back. Just do a search on the web and you'll find tons of info on it.
