I want to take my brown hair and dye it black, then add blonde tips?

What do you think? My hair is just like in my avatar picture now. I am a guy, and I'm going for more of a scene look. Any hints, pointers, tips? I'm considering doing it myself but I'm probably going to get it done professionally. I've been told the tips might come out a little orange, and I don't want that at all, so how can I prevent this?

when you apply your bleach with 40 vol developer or even 30, cover the ends with tin foil..folding it over it...then process under heat and keep checking the color..it should resemble the inside of a banana peel..(the color) for blonde..no orange or bright yellows...pale  yellow.
