  1. Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. Remember to make an appointment. They have the best tasting steaks in the world!

  2. It depends on where you are in soCal.

In San Diego, I'd recommend the Spanish Tapas restaurant Sevilla.  Sooo romantic and wonderful.  I don't know if it's "dressy" enough for what you're looking for, but it has a nice flamenco feel.

In the Los Angeles area, there are so many places to choose from, but it depends on what you want to eat.  In terms of fanciness, there are some Italian restaurants in Westwood that would seem to fit the bill.

When my husband and I last went out on a nice date, we chose the Cheesecake Factory in Brentwood.  It was soooo mmmmmmm...  And, there are lots of Cheesecake Factories in SoCal.

Another place that comes to mind is this Italian place in Pasadena that we went to really really late at night with a few friends: Mi Piace!  It was sooo good.  Incredible desserts as well.  Nice alcoholic selection too.

  3. the stinking rose or the raymond restaurant in pasadena

  4. Some great food/dressy places: ruthchris steaks, check out ruthchris.com for locations throught Cali

    Hollywood/LA - The Red Door

    OC/Pomona - The Mining Company

    OC - Orange Hill Restaruant

any of these are great -food, atmosphere & elegant

  5. Southern CA like OC or LA?  Katana in LA is really yummy - ask to sit outside

In the OC.... Head to Villa Nova (on PCH in Newport) - it's quiet, romantic, dressy, $$$, and on the water - some of the best Italian food I've had. Billy's is also on PCH in Newport and turns more lively in the evening, but still kind of dressy - good food. The Cannery in Newport Beach also on the water is a good scene - great food, but a litte $$ - good place for some people watching and dressing up.

  6. You have got to go to Katana on Sunset Blvd.  If you like Sushi & asian you've got to go.   It's perfect for your age group & it's dressy & a great hot spot.  Make a reservation for sure & check out the menu online!  So fantastic!

  7. If you can get down to San Diego, I'd try Acqua al Due.  It's an upscale Italian restaurant owned by the folks who own the restaurant in Florence by the same name.  Essentially the same menu as the branch in Florence as well.  It's pricey but it's about the best Tuscan food you're likely to get on the west coast.
