I belong to a church, and I would like the youth group in my church to visit a prison, in order to spread the gospel to them. Would we be allowed to do this?

  1. You need to contact the prison Governor for his approval I would think.

  2. No you would not - you may well be able to visit a prison as a means of deterring your young charges from becoming criminals but not, they are not going to let you try and convert people.

  3. well i dont think its suitable as it isnt a good environment for the youths to see and acknowledge. Before you make a decision speak to others and see what their opinions are (parents, those involved with the church)

  4. Sound like a very good idea. If you are a church group the kids have a good start. It is a shame some of these kids that are stabbing each other they could benefit from a visit to a prison. Every school should have a visit like this to a prison

  5. I'm not so sure kids are who criminals should hear this from... just a thought... they might think the school of hard knocks speaks louder than these younguns.???  But if it works great!!

  6. First you will have to call the prisons main number and ask to speak with someone about this. They may not want you to because of certain rule that apply in a prison setting. Many prisons have a place to worship and have services. If not this many simply cannot come out of their housing units because of the level that they are at. So it may be appropriate to call and ask first but this is kinda on the maybe side.

  7. I am not sure what state you are in but the majority of prisons and jails have a no negotiations policy. That means if you or a member of your youth group are taken hostage there will be no negotiating to get you back in one piece.

I like your idea behind this trip but unless your youth group can sign their own parental consent forms I think you will have trouble explaining the 'fine print' to the parents.

You could always mail things like letters and books, start correspondance that way. But I highly advise should you choose letter writing that you be the main recipient and read through the recieved letters. Also remeber that inmates do not have to see their visitors so you may not have a group of willing participants anyway. Best of luck and God Bless!
