Question:

I want to teach in Taiwan...?

I am afraid of getting ripped off. I heard that many new teachers get ripped off when they first go to Taiwan.

I don't want any companies holding my passport or withholding money from me, I just want a good experience, and to make some decent money.

I don't have any degree, but I am just finishing a TESOL certification course. If anyone knows of an honest agency in Taiwan that might hire me, or at least some teachers in Taiwan I could talk to, I'd really appreciate it.

  1. I'm assuming you will be getting your own passport... that way no one can withhold it from you.  Second, contact your local state representative's office and make the same inquiry there.  You are wanting to do something that requires some political help and expertise.  Your state rep will be able to refer you to the proper entity so you don't get ripped off.  Do NOT pay anyone money at an agency... you can find a job without them through the political channel.

  2. I would suggest you read the Taiwan newspapers that are online and see what ads for teachers are out there. I know there are ads in the papers all the time looking for teachers of english language so check those out. If that fails, go to the government site for Taiwan and look for relevant links.
