So I'm going into 9th grade and my best throw is 79 feet and 1 inch. I made it to the semifinals in my district meet but only the top 5 from all the middle schools in the district qualify - I placed sixth. But the top 5 throwers threw 100+ feet so the gap between fifth and sixth (Me) was pretty big. So when I found out that some of my friends had 6th period athletics on their high school schedules, I asked them what it was and it turned out that you come during the summer and you practice for the sport in the summer and during 6th period in high school.. I knew about that but I only thought is was for football and I went on a vacation that i didn't want to go on during the summer. So I have have regular PE just like everybody else... So after watching the olympics I thought it was about time I do something... So I asked my mom to buy me a discus and I could practice on my own so I can make the high school team... She said no. Why? I'll hit someone in the head and I have no cage or something similar. I have this park nearby and barely anyone is ever there and it is pretty big and has wide open space. So the chances of me hitting someone or something aren't that great. I'll try to convince her again. But I'm really inspired by the olympics and my cousin who is nationally ranked in egypt for Judo and won fourth place in an international tournament in Japan two years ago. And I dont know how to find a local travel team or club.. What should I do?

  1. You can go to school and practice on the football field when no one is there.  You might ask the coach first if it would be OK if your practiced there.  Or find an open field and ask the owner if you could practice there.

You will have to practice a lot 2 or 3 times a week at least.   When you are not practicing, lift some hand weights.  Not to heavy it's best to lift more times than to lift more weights.  Build up your arm and shoulder and don't forget to exercise your arm and waist being throwing.

    Good luck!

  2. First get a job, buy your on discus. WORK, it will make you stronger & help you in throwing the discus.
