I dont have a firewire connection on my computer, so what is the cheapest way to add one. I only have usb ports. The dv lead is a firewire connection. Is there a way that you can convert a usb port to a firewire port? Is there another way of doing it from my camcorder to my computer. I have pinnacle studio installed on my computer ready to transfer the film but cannot do it HELP!!!

  1. If you have a mini dv (cassette) camcorder….

Your dv camcorder needs a firewire connection (ieee 1394) in order to download video, your PC probably did not come with a firewire port, so you will have to buy one and install it, since most computers (except possibly brand new) don't come with a firewire port, your camcorder did not come with a firewire cord so you have to purchase a cord too. Your camcorder did come with a USB cord and that is used for downloading stills from your camcorder.

Installation is easy, unplug everything and ground it/yourself. Take the case off and snap the card in an empty bay,

  2. If you have an open PCI slot on your computer, you could add a FireWire card for $10 or $15 bucks.
