I want to travel by train in Northern India, alone. I am 17. Do they check to make sure one is 18?

Will they not allow me to depart from Delhi if I am under 18? It will be about 5 days until my 18th birthday when I intend to travel. I am an American.

  1. somebody has told you wrong. In Indian railways anyone may travel alone irrespective of his age. there is no requirement of keeping age proof with you unless you are availing concessional fair of child (below 12 yrs) or senior citizen (above 60 yrs).


  2. I have traveled alone in India (south) when I was 17, so I don't think there will be any problem for you.

Welcome to India.Age proof is necessary to avail any fare concession whether you are minor or a senior citizen.You will be charged even if you are more or less than one day of  that prescribed age for travel concession.Please do not ignore this..Any age group can travel alone in Indian  railways.There is no restriction on age.

  4. Why you are bothered about this are you availaing any special fare ??? If not don't bothered everyone can travel alone in Indian rail just have a valid ticket with valid fare.  If someone ask anything to check if you are tourist or what you must be carriying your passport with you.
