I want to spend a week there and celebrate my birthday. No friends wants to go with me. And my Spanish is also bad. I am a single "gringo." I want to have alot of fun and party. Will I be able to have a good time alone and not knowing the language there? How will the women treat a single "gringo" like myself? Please tell me of the popular discos. I do prefer techno music.

  1. Si colombia bonito good

  2. If you are planning to go to Bogota, you most know that It is a big city like any other so you most know the appropriate places to visit. At first Bogota is on of the cities in Latin America with more culture, so most of the people can speak English and French. Another thing is that Bogota is good when you talk about prices, so it is cheap to rent a car for a week  and also a suite at a 5 star hotel. To go out always ask to the tourist assistant in the hotel about the places you would like to visit. Bogota has the best gastronomical movement in Latin America so the best restaurant places are: LA ZONA T, LA ZONA G, LA ZONA ROZA, LA CANDELARIA and PARQUE DE LA 93. In this zones you can also find some good discos. About security Bogota is pretty safe but always try to be careful and keep away from the poor zones. If you need anything else look on the web pages that I am giving to you .

  3. I would suggest staying in the north like everyone else said, it is the safest and nicest area.  Parque 93, Zona Rosa, La Candelaria. Even as an american you are pretty safe, you;re not going to get kidnapped or anything, but you might be victim of a pickpocket so don’t walk around like you got hundreds. I would learn spanish before going there, because even though some speak, not that many speak english. Don’t wear expensive things, leave that at home.  Ohh and I’m sure all the women will be all over you once they find out you’re a gringo with money lol. Just have fun and don’t forget to bring condoms.

  4. I live in Bogota, and I have a few friends from different countries that have come, is easier if you come with someone, or if you know someone who lives here, but there is no problem to come alone, you just make sure to stay in a good hotel where the people speak English and that's all, the best hotels have this service, special white cab that take you wherever you want to, so it would be safer than taking a cab in the street. to party the best techno place is chacha, which is located near to downtown, there are a few more like in vitro, cinema, and maybe could be a party with a DJ, you just have to ask, look for it, outside from Bogota. if you wanna go to others place i recommend you Andres carne de res, el salto del angel, gavanna, danzatoria, la jugueteria, kukaramakara, el sitio, la plaza, lola, maria mulata, la casa de la cerveza, punto g, so on.

ps. there's a magazine called "plan b", in which you' ll find the best places, the parties, what you can do in Bogota, and there's tips in english for tourist. you can find in the hotel, or in a supermarket, you just ask for, it costs COP 3.000, us$1.5

have fun here, i'm pretty sure you'll find someone to accompanied you.

  5. hmmmm....interesting destination for a birthday party.  I was there for a week on a missions trip (so we did not go clubbing) but I can tell you to stay on the North side of Bogota as it is the safest place....further south a little more dangerous.  Also if you don't speak fluently that's OK as long as you know the main phrases.  I don't know you nationality but as an American i would not go there alone i would at least be traveling with someone else or know people down there.  Over all i never felt in danger down there, but our hosts told us if we were to walk on the street go with someone else (but we lived right on the southern line were you shouldn't go any further south).

As long as you use common sense you should be fine, but I know if you drink local water you might get the runs, so keep that in mind to.  now if you are from Colombia or the area i guess no worries!

And i know that there are a lot of prostitutes down there so you shouldn't have an issue there, however i might reconsider that thought as STD's.  If you are in the downtown area there is a nice spot were they hang out.
