I've been wanting to go abroad for quite some time & may finally have the chance, but I don't know where to go because I want to go EVERYWHERE! But, I can't, so what countries have you visited in Europe that you loved (and why) or what countries would you suggest? If anybody has information on less tourist-y places in Europe that would be great too!

  1. Greece-Turkey-Italy..Wherever you go, dress nicely. No jeans. Casual is fine --slacks and nice sweater. You don't want to be thought of as the 'dirty American' Have a great time. Wish I were going :)

  2. if i were you id go to either Italy, France or London

  3. If you only have limited time and  money, you really HAVE to choose just one or two places.  (depends where and how much time).

I love Spain, but just spent a month there, and didn't even come CLOSE to finishing what I want to do, but then, I have a REALLY in depth love for the country.

If you really have to choose, I would go with London or Paris.  They are the two most important cities, and both are so full of monuments, museums and smaller things that you almost have to do, that you could spend a month in each and not more than scratch the surface!  (London is a bit more expensive than Paris, these days, if that has any bearing on your decision).  If you are going for something more budget or beach oriented, you could do Greece.  And the former Eastern Bloc countries are even less expensive, but, of course, the flavor is totally different, so, you would get an entirely different point of view.

*edit*  Looks like someone came through and just thumbs downed everyone!  Some negative nelly trolling through?

  4. Turkey, you should go to Turkey, if you love history, different cultures, friendly people around...

    Bosphorus, Galata tower, Marmara sea

    Bodrum

    Perfect...

  5. I think you should definately go to Spain. I went there for a week, and it was the most fun vacation i have ever gone on! The people are nice, the food is great, and the weather is wonderful! Plus, there's a lot to see there.

  6. It is hard to narrow it down to just a few countries.  I would try writing down the sites that you want to see and see which countries have the most.  I backpacked around Europe when I was 18 and I really enjoyed Prague and Budapest for city trips because they are fun for backpackers and relatively cheap.  For history, Italy is fantastic and the culture is so facinating too.  Spain is a lot of fun for young people, especially Ibiza if you can afford it a book ahead.  I find though that it is easier to just go on a trip to Spain and Portugal separately due to the size.  I went to just Spain a few years ago for 2.5 weeks and didn't see half of what I planned too.  I also highly recommend Austria; Salzberg and Vienna are really great and a lot of fun.  I love Germany as well but it is a bigger country and the sites are spread out so it is better for a separate holiday unless you just want to stop in Munich but the small towns really are the attraction.  France of course is lovely but I have only been to Strassbourg and Nice.  Nice is also a fun place for backpackers and close to take a trip to Monaco during the day.  For a less touristy place I do recommend Strassbourg, France, it is like this prefect Renissance town.  It has a beautiful cathadral and lots of nice cafes and such.

    Have fun!

  7. My FAVOURITE is Holland, Amsterdam in particular.

So much to do. It all depends on what you like to do, but Amsterdam has it all.

    FUN FUN FUN!

It has coffee shops (with special cakes), interesting cheeses, cozy bars and restaurants with so much history. For example I ate in a restaurant that was built in 1488!

Apart from the fun stuff in the Red Light District area with the s*x Museum, Madame Taussads wax museum etc., there's also a mini China area and further out there are Arty spots, some Art galleries... but what I thoroughly enjoyed was the Heineken museum, Rijks Museum and the Van Gogh Museum !

There are plenty parks and such just to have picnics at if you wish to relax.

We also went to a Diamond factory and learnt all sorts of intersting stuff about diamonds.

From Amsterdam you can take day trips to see the rest of Holland such as going to see Clog making, small fishing villages, Cheese making, the windmills and other towns.

People in Amsterdam speak many languages so it is easy to get around etc. And safe too.

    I'm definitely going back!

My top 3 cities are :

    1. Cape Town

    2. Amsterdam

    3. Miami

  8. Whatever language you're familar with go to the country that speaks it.  Although Spain sounds lovely.

  9. I've been to England, Ireland, Germany, France, Spain, Austria, Switzerland, Lichtenstein and Russia. I would recommend England or Ireland due to the history and beautiful scenery (and they speak English). If you want something a little different, I would suggest Russia because there is so much to do (it's a big country) with lots of different architecture. France is good for museums as is Spain. Austria and Germany are full of history, but concentration camps are a big place to visit. Switzerland and Licthenstein are beautiful with mountains and very friendly people. And the chocolate is amazing.

  10. greetings from macedonia!!!

of course Macedonia. Turkey. Russia. Serbia. Armenia. Croatia. Bosnia. Montengro.Italy.Austria.Ukraine all these countries are beautiful and are very tourist friendly and will be well worth the wait....and you will definately find a fav out of these

my fav one is of course Macedonia because i live here but there are losts of tourist attractions like the Lake Ohrid. then the great Vardar river and the Vardar bridge then there are lots of churches  that are very beautiful especially St. Naum :> there are actually 365 churches...it is said one for each day...which lots of tourists do... but i would definately suggest to visit Turkey also as its a great atmosphere and the people  are very friendly basically anywhere in the balkans is good as they are all very friendly, welcoming countries :>

some places i liked but are too touristy are England (didnt like it...and i cant stand the accents). Switzerland ...way too many people but nice scenery. Greece...(mainland)much similiar to the rest of the over visited tourist attraction although if you like ancient greek history (??) its ok but lot.lots.lots of people but the greek islands are pretty but still lots of people. Spain is very cultural but a good experience...france is very romactic but not very interesting everything is kinda a bit punsi and all the people there are snobs...but yer the best part of europe i reckon is right hand side of the continent so anywhere on the east side is good and worth the venture :>
