I want to treat leather to harden it with beeswax but cant find. Will candle wax work?

I do not know what wax is in the candle,just those normal ones

  1. The term you're looking for is courbouli.

    Candle wax will work, but not well.

    You can also watter harden by submerging in 180 degree watter for a few minutes and keeping it formed until dry. experiment with scraps as different thicknesses and tanning processes effect the time required.

    or you can bake harden by soaking the leather in watter until thoroughly saturated. then bake it in the oven at about 200 degrees until dry.

    I prefer the bake hardening as it is less likely to crack as in watter hardening. and wax hardening will soften and deform if it gets hot (imagine opening the trunk of the car on a hot day to find all your carefully formed pieces shaped like your spare tire).
