I want to understand the physics of a clutch is there any good web sites out there?

i was just wanting to see a pictorial or animated sequence that shows the true nature of the clutch and accellaration, you might have guessed i suck at driving manuals thank you

    juts imagine the clutch as a plate which presses agains another plate i.e the flywheel

Dont listen to the guy who posted above me.  What do you need to know about how a clutch works?  It works EXACTLY what its name implies...it CLUTCHES something.  The clutch pedal is pushed by your left leg, that pedal is attached to a rod which is attached to a piston, which pushed fluid onto another rod, which pushes on another rod, which is attached to a 'fork', which is attached to another bearing called a Throw out bearing, which pushes on the FINGERS of the PRESSURE PLATE, which 'squeezes' the CLUTCH DISC between the FLYWHEEL and the PRESSURE PLATE.  The clutch disc is attached to the input shaft of your transmission which turns the gears, which turns the final drive gear which turns your differential which turns the wheels, which makes you GO when you push that right pedal hard...
