I would like to upgrade the CPU and add RAM. Do you guys think that's worth it on this machine and if so, what kind of each can\should I get? Thanks!

I'm not sure exactly what kind of motherboard is - but it's the standard dell mb that was installed in the dimension 8xxx machines at the time. The CPU is a P4 2.0GHz

thanks for your help!

  1. Since you have a old main board 478-I would say you need a newer one with a new CPU,PSU,RAM and GPU.

In the link I picked one out NR one right on the top, with a quad and 4096 MB RAM.Not bad for that price.

  2. I don't think it's worth upgrading the processor or RAM. That computer is so outdated and the P4s are no longer in production. It would cost you a lot to get a good P4. P4s are single cores, which are very outdated. I would just get a whole new computer. Also, if I'm not wrong, you computer uses DDR RAM, which is also outdated and not in production and also costs a bundle.

A computer with 2.3Ghz dual core and 2GB of RAM only cost about $300-$400.
