  1. You can, but it will void your warranty, and it's risky. I suggest not doing it.

  2. No you can not upgrade your laptop processor.

But if you want to speed up your computer, try to add more RAM.

  3. What model laptop do you have?

Most PC laptops are not designed to be upgraded by a "simple" processor replacement.

The best way to determine that is to check the manufacturer's website to see if there are processor upgrade options available for that model.

You might try searching the web (i.e. Yahoo! search, Google, etc) for hardware hacks for the model.

  4. If you can it'll be hard to do.

Some laptops have the processor soldered onto the motherboard in which case you won't be upgrading, even if the processor is socketed that's usually more for convenience of the manufacturer than user upgrading.

There's also the matter of what the BIOS will let you use (since it'll block you using what hasn't been tested by the manufacturer).

If you want to upgrade you'll need to find out what processor other laptops of the same model as yours used so you can ensure you get a processor that will actually be useable with your laptops cooling system (and which the BIOS will let you use, update the BIOS first if you are going to do it).

  5. you can always upgrade the processor but it depends on how you would have to do it. Intel celeron sucks by all means go for core 2 duo, quad, or extreme with 2.2 Ghz or higher to get good performance. but again some laptops are more easily upgradeable than others. For a laptop that isnt you would have to send it to a technician or to the company. If it is, there are tutorials everywhere and for the most part, switching out the CPU is the same for most laptops. The technician option is obviously more expensive but also is less risky, i would reccomend doing it yourself if you have experience with computer hardware and know what youre doing. Either way can give you good results.
