I want to visit Argentina, my dad says there is too much crime. How can I convince him to go?

Also, my dad is like 100% Argentine, he moved to The US when he was a kid, and he's fluent in Spanish. Isn't Argentina just like any other big city where you just have to be careful? Why live in fear? How about taking some risks!!

Take him on a weekend trip to New York City. If he survives THAT- without becoming tramatized, then he can go ANYWHERE without fear. There is NO City in Argentina- whose crime rate is any worse than NYC... -And the people in NYC wouldn't live ANYWHERE else, if they could.

2) Buenos Aires, the biggest city, can be a bit dangerous, but now it is getting safer, and if you think a bit you shouldnt be afraid of nothing.

I think your father has other reasons for not returning.  But, if it is just crime, tell him you have decided to visit Los Angles instead.  No crime there, right?  Or maybe New Orleans or Washington DC.

I want to visit Argentina myself and have been researching it.  Looking forward to my trip.

i was born over there. and  i have to say that Argentina is still the best.

ok.. ive had a couple of friends who went at the beginning of the summer to Mar Del Plata. and they said that had nooo problem

no crime. nothing happens when they go. and people know that they live here. but nothing happened to them Thank God.

i have to say there is little bit of crime. but NOT AS MUCH as they make is sound.

i mean .. if u go.. be careful. and dont let a lottt of people know that u r from the US. cuz they will think that u have money and bla bla bla. and then they will steal. but i dont think is that big of a problem. i say .. u tell ur dad that u havent been there in the lONGEST time. and its true. itz like any other big city anything and everything can happen itz not just in Argentina..

Andddddddd. if u r a crazy person who will go out at night to clubs thennn u will not wanna come back.

Hey! I am fromCórdoba Argentina and here we can go everywhere and is safe but in Buenos Aires you have to pay attention to everything dont show that you are from the States. Take cabs instead of walk at night and everything´s gonna be ok

Cordoba is more like a town city and very nice but you must go to Buenos Aires and then come here and to the South...good luck

Argentina is not more unsafe than any big city in the world, try to go because is a beautiful country. Anyway don't use expensive watches, don't show lots of many in front of people, take care when you go to an ATM close the door after you and do it in a place with people during the day.

Be aware with the taxis, always use a radio-taxi .

Hi there, been 7 times to Argentina (BA, Patagonia and other provinces) and it is as safe as any country can be! Well, no actually, I think it's safer than NY and LA. You can convince your dad by looking at some statistics from crime in Argentina and crime in cities around the US, but the best way to convince him is by telling him that you are a sensible girl, who will take care of yourself and not do silly things while travelling to Argentina. No ones can assure you that you will be 100% safe (even a trip to the supermarket in your neighbourhood can be fatal) but stick to a well known travel agency, book a very nice and "safe" trip which includes an hotel in a nice and safe neighbourhood and just act sensibly like dont flaunt that you're a tourist, walk along main avenues and well lit streets, stick to the safe placs they tell you to go, and if you can, dont travel alone, do it with a friend so that you can take care of each other.

Buenos Aires, the capital City of Argentina is as safe as any city with over 14 Million people, actually I would say is one of the safest large cities.

Just act with common sense, which means:

1) Do not show much cash in public, have change for minor stuff, avoid showing $500 for paying $1 bill. Common sense!

2) Do not show much jewelry or expensive watch if you are going to a rock concert! Common Sense!

3) Book a nice hotel from US, do not arrive without accommodations, you might get into a "not-so-nice" area. Try Palermo Soho are for staying, there are bunch of new hotels there and the atmosphere is awesome.

4) Go where the people go, avoid entering areas where you are alone.

5) Find a travel companion is recommended!

I moved to Argentina when I was 23 and have never had a problem here.  Of course you do have to be careful and use common sense, just like in any other place.

I am argentinean living in Canada.

Argentina's worst time was three years ago after a big crisis. Today, you can go more relaxed just avoiding certain areas. If you go with somebody who knows, or you contract a tourism company, they will not send you over those areas. Buenos Aires suburbs are the regions I will try to avoid. If you are traveling to other provinces, is quite safe and you will met very nice people.

One important tip: call taxi companies by phone, don't stop them in the street.
