I want to walk from Perth to Sydney - can I follow the railroad tracks?

there is NO railroad track direct from Perth to Sydney & as the crow fly's the distance is about 3,400 kl

following  rail lines will add another 1 to 2 thousand to that

You could, but the settlements that could give you any support are many days' walk apart.  You would have to carry a huge amount of supplies to survive.  

The same applies to following roads, but at least you could have a support vehicle with you.  

This plan is naive, and almost certainly based on a profound misconception about the nature of Australia.

Technically, yes, but why you'd want to is beyond me. It's likely that you'd die of thirst in the desert.
