I want to watch and record TV on my PC.?

My cable service uses analog and digital channels and i want to watch both. I don't have Media Center Edition, just xp sp2. i need something that can unscramble the cable's digital signal. i want to hear the sound through my soundcard and speakers

Do you have a TV tuner card? You need one. You can download Media Center separately, you need Media Center to record shows. You need to connect firewire from your computer to your digital cable box.

if you could be able to unscrambled the premium channels without paying or a cable box or decoder that would be illegal.

you could watch through the pc the basic cable channels because without the cable box or a decoder you cant watch the premium ones.

you can do that with a cable tuner card another legal way to watch the premium is to get a cable card from the cable service provider and with a pc cable card tuner you could watch all your paying channels in the pc.

also almost every tv tuner card is also a video capture card so you only need a software to record, you dont need media center since this is hardware/software based is not a media center service.

you don't need windows media center, but it is probably your best bet. You can go to best buy or something and get a tuner card that comes with a program that records TV shows and install it on your computer
