I want to win an olympic medal, but I have no athletic skills. Are my best chances in the sport of curling?

I have formed a team with three other guys all of whom have never curled before. We are quitting our jobs, getting part time jobs, and practicing everyday for the next six years.

We hope to qualify and win a gold medal by the 2014 Winter Olympics.

Does anyone have any advice before I embark on this endeavour?

  1. Curling is pretty intense. You could try shooting, you just have to have a steady hand a be VERY accurate.

  2. YES. curling is the hardest sport in the world. most athletes give up curling and take up swimming, track, and gymnastics.

Plus a lot of people who win medals are soo in debt they have to sell their medals...

After the salt lake winter olympics my friends an d i had the same goals as you had. we quit our full times jobs we left our family gave up our kids and moved to alaska and now thanks to injuries due to curling i am now sitting in a wheel chair

  3. Don't quit your day job. Good Luck! (honestly!)

  4. If you have seen curling, you will notice that the best professionals make amazing shots with only millimeters to spare from the length of the ice.

So, like golf (which is a sport), you don't need to be a super athlete to play - but you have to hone your skill to be really good, and that takes years.
