i already work at a group home on a PRN basis as a mental health worker. my 40 hr a week job is in technical support and i just can't work with these people anymore. so i am strongly leaning towards the medical field. but I'm not sure exactly what i would want to do. but i thought the faster i can get experience in the medical field the better right. sooo...any thoughts?

  1. If you are experienced as a mental health worker, you have some experience working with patients.  It is not a requirement in any state in the US that a medical assistant be certified or have attended any form of formal training program.  In fact we found that our best medical assistants were the people we trained ourselves, to perform the job as we needed in our clinic.  When trying to hire MAs from training programs, we often spent many months trying to get them to understand that they had been taught improperly at their school.  Often we had to let them go, as they were too dogmatic.

Talk to some of the nurses and other people with whom you work, and see if they know any medical offices which are hiring.

    Good luck!
