I want to work at a local wine bar/restaurant but don't know much about wine. Would they hire me?

I drink wine and know what kind I prefer, but I'm definitely no wine connoisseur. Do you think it'd be silly to apply as a server when I don't know that much about wine?

I'm sure I'd learn on the job, but still...

The wait staffs job is to serve food. It is up to the somolier to recommend the wine from the wine list.

I would hire you, because you wouldn't know anything but what I taught you about the wines that I choose to sell in my resturaunt.

It is required for all the wait staff to taste everything on the menu, so that they can say what it tastes like to the costumers.

Same thing for the wines. How can you recomend a wine if you don't know how it tastes?

read a book on wine, then apply for the job. its no qualification butat least youll be able to talk wine wiht them

You can learn and they have a small selection, so it's not a problem
