I want to work in fine dining, but don't know if it is worth it...?

Question

So here is the deal. I currently work at a chain restaurant where I work late hours and make about $350- $500 a week working abou 30-40 hours.

I am a 20 year old college student and have worked in restaurants since I was 13. I have a lot of experience, and I want to switch over to fine dining.

Do you think that I could make more a week working at a fine dining restaurant? There are only a select few in my small city area that are really expensive, but I am a good looking, intelligent individual that would have a lot to offer.

Any advice would be wonderful!

depends on how upscale the restaurant is.

Well i'm a twenty year old college student also i have worked in fast food, casual dining, and i just started in a upscale fine dining restaurant. The money will not be a huge difference but it will be a much better environment. The higher the bill the better the tip, people are sophisticated and classy, you don't have to do so many dirty jobs, overall it is calmer. Chain restaurants are not that bad but why not try fine dining you have nothing to lose. :) gd luck and don't forget about school

I don't know where you live at, but if you live near a major city then you have a good chance at making money. Try to stay away from high class dining. They can be more trouble than it is worth. Get in a big time hotel. Hilton, the W, Sheraton, Intercontinental, etc. Apply for banquets. With your back ground you could pick up on it quickly and make lots of money while working your way up in the hotel industry.

Not only will you make more money in fine dining but you will also learn more and meet people who may be able to help you out in the future.

I've done both and the pay was about the same.  The big difference was working fine dining was much much easier.
