  1. Be prepared, it's not as glamourous as you may think.  My friend was going to work on one as a SCUBA instructor.  Now instructors have to go through some serious training, it's not a job for anyone.  They were going to cram her into a room with 5 "bunkmates."  Of course, down in the pit of the ship.  So you are working or dealing with these 5 people all the time, except on the rare time off for yourself.

But, you could get a job as a bartender or restaurant worker. I think most jobs requires some training for the specific line of work.  Good luck.

  2. Be prepared to work 14-16 hour days 6-7 days a week, be cheerful and happy all the time, and earn a low wage by American standards.

  3. Apply to a cruize line.  It would be helpful if you spook a language that the crew could understand or what language you would need to speek while working.  There are many jobs on ship, doctors, nurses,  Men to dance with the single ladies, servers,   kitchen help, bridge teaches, host, activity planner, entertainment. cleaners,   beauty operators, tour guides when you hit port, it's like a small city, and needs of that city must   be met.

  4. I would try the gift shops, the work is easy, you are staff rather than crew (better cabins, deck privileges etc), and since the shops dont usually open while the ships are in port, you get to see all the places.

Also since the service is a concession you get to work for many different cruise lines, all over the world.

    There are 2 major companies:

    www.hardingbros.co.uk

They have some 40 ships and are growing fast.

    Interviews are over the phone

    Salary is a little better

Work place is better, more friendly.

    http://www.starboardcruise.com/

Bigger, some 90 ships, including Carnival/Royal etc...

    Interviews  are face to face

Salary is low, if you dont hit targets and make comission you can end up not making too much money.

    Work atmosphere stinks.

The comissions are based on targets for each cruise, depending on your destinations it makes all the diference.

Caribbean usually is very bad, Baltic and Brazil very good.

    Mediterranean depends a lot.

I did it for 10 years, first at reception, then  shops... shops are much more easy. You only have a hard days work on sea days.

    good luck.

  5. I think it is a great job if you are the type of person that likes the "college life". You will live on a bunk bed with a few other people in the room with you. You will work at least 12 hours a day depending on the field you go into. I would reccomend being maid service or in the restaurant because you will get the best tips with these jobs. You will make a lot of money because you wont have living expenses (house payment, car payment, food.....).
